William (Bill) Thomas Mesmer Sr.'s Obituary
Mr. William “Bill” Thomas Mesmer, Sr., age 90, passed away Tuesday, August 25, 2020, at his home in DeBary, FL. He was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on November 27, 1929 to the late Augustus and Freida Mesmer. Bill was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend. Bill leaves behind his loving wife of 33 years, Lillian B. Mesmer.
Working with others brought Bill tremendous joy. He proudly worked for the gas/electric services company PSE&G for 42 years. Bill was the co-creator, with his late wife Alice Mesmer, of the Dutch Wagon Market in Medford, NJ. Bill had a passion for serving his community, whether he was volunteering as a Boy Scout Master or serving as President of the Lions Club. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and was very active in the DeBary Golf & Country Club and DeBary HOA. Bill will be remembered by his friends for devoting a great amount of time and talent towards improving his community. Bill loved to dance, travel, and bring smiles to others by playing the drums with the band, the “Noteables”!
No matter what Bill did, he always stressed the importance of taking pride in one’s work and to do so with kindness and integrity. He practiced these values his entire life: playing golf, rebuilding antique cars, playing cards and games with his family and friends. He shared a deep love for his country and enjoyed reading and learning about American History. Bill was a man of great faith and was an amazing leader for his family. Bill touched many lives and was loved by many.
Bill is survived by his faithful wife, Lillian Mesmer, his sister Freida Emerich, and his children, William T. Mesmer, Jr. (Susan) of Absecon, NJ, Philip J. Mesmer (Kathy) of Cinnaminson, NJ, Elaine Bray (Steve) of Mehoopany, PA, Mary Lou Holmes (Rob) of Fort Washington, PA, Carol McLamb (Phil) of Clinton, NC, Tom Bartel (Anne) of Cary, NC, and Bob Bartel (Rita) of West Chester, OH. Bill proudly had 13 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren.
Bill was loved by his grandchildren, Jennifer Somogy, Lori Rubert, Erin Welsh, Bridget Silva, William T. Mesmer, III, Stephanie Richter, Arielle Fakhraee, Chuck Bartel, Jennifer Bartel, Alex Fakhraee, Alycia Thornton, J.T. Bartel, and Christopher Bartel. Bill was proud of his eight great-grandchildren, Anthony Proietti, Joseph Proietti, Lainey Rubert, AnnaMae Rubert, Robert Richter, Sophia Silva, Isabella Silva, and Isla Jane Silva.
Along with his parents and eight loving siblings, he was preceded in death by his first wife Edith, his second wife Alice, daughter Edith Lorraine Mesmer and great-grandson Jackson Thornton.
