Lew and I were friends in the early 50's when he and Shirley lived 2 houses from us on Victory Dr in the Mehlville school district. We were always at each others house especially during the Summer. We spent a lot of time on one of our front porches shooting marbles and sucking on the ice the milkman gave us.
Lew played little league baseball for a team called the "Fats and Leans". He and his father would practice baseball in their backyard and they would invite me to play with them. If you know Lew you know whether he was a "Fat" or a "Lean"
One Halloween we went around the neighborhood dressed as girls. My aunt, who lived several houses from us, made wigs for manicans in the St. Louis downtown department stores. She loaned us some of her wigs to use with our girl costumes. The people in the neighbohood could not guess who we were.
We lost touch in 1953 when my family moved away. But, I will never forget all the fun we had together as boys.

Lew and Sarah have been a precious part of my life since the beginning of the century when they moved to Florida. Then went from being my friend's parents to being my friends. Lew was a solid voice of wisdom in person and online influencing many with old-fashioned common sense and virtue. In my own life, Lew has been an encouragement especially through difficult times. I have been grateful for the advice, words of encouragement, and constant humor! :) :) In 2022, Lew helped Laura and I write our God Bless the USA Cookbook by grill testing many of our recipes along with enthusiastic support that we were both so grateful for. Lew, I miss you already and can't wait to see you again in Heaven. I love you and your entire family very much.
Lew and Sara have been our dear friends since 1966. We were newly weds in Norfolk, VA, where Robert was stationed as Intelligence Officer for VP-24 Naval Air Squadron. Lew, a friendly caring individual, was a mentor to Robert, a new Ensign. Over the coming months we became great friends during this tour of duty and have remained friends, staying in touch over the years. We visited them in Monterrey, California, Albuquerque, New Mexico, and St. Louis, Missouri. Lew was a genine person you could always count on. His devotion to Sara, his family, and his friends was endearing. He loved his country and his service was exemplary! He will be missed by many. Rest in Peace, dear friend. Much love, Robert and Jill Williams, Daphne, Alabama
