Douglas L. Curry's Obituary
Douglas Curry, 64 of DeLand, Florida sadly passed away surrounded by family on Wednesday, October 16, 2024 after a short illness. Douglas was born to Mabel Barrett and Joseph Robert Curry on February 29, 1960 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
He attended Woodbury Jr./Sr. High New Jersey before moving to Michigan and finishing at Webberville High in 1978. He held a wide variety of jobs but becoming a nurse was his calling. Doug is not remembered by his years as a nurse, but by the difference he made during those years by stepping into people's lives. He was loved by patients and their family members for his compassion, kindness, and always going above and beyond to make sure they received the best care.
Some of his hobbies were working in his garage fixing small engines, thrifting for his online resale shop and buying unwanted storage units to discover what treasures he could find. He was the type of person who would choose to repair something over buying new. He valued hard work, honesty and the value of a man's word. His hands rarely still as he was always helping neighbors with anything they needed whether its hanging blinds in their home, repairing a lawn mower or lending out a tool that everyone knew he had.
Doug is survived by his wife of 15 years, Deborah Dufrain-Curry; their daughter Lauren Curry, and step-son Malcolm McGriff. Cherished father and devoted step-father, he leaves behind children and their spouses, Brigitte (Matt) Opesso of Texas, Shawn (Celeste) Curry of Louisiana, Ryan (Krystle) Curry of Louisiana, Joshua (Scarlett) Curry of Louisiana, Cortney (Jeffery) Lee of Mississippi, Brianna Curry of Louisiana, and Rachel (Wesley Sherman) Curry of Louisiana; 14 Grandchildren, and 1 Great-Grandchild.
Survived by siblings Lynn Tomlinson of Florida, Valerie Dalton of Florida, and Denise Bicknell of Delaware and many more loving relatives, life long friends, and his best buddy Levi.
Doug is predeceased by Dawn Esposito of Michigan of whom he selflessly cared for during her time of need.
We can find comfort in knowing that Doug's legacy lives on through the lessons he taught us, the love he shared, and the memories we will cherish forever.
