Amos Johnson Taylor's Obituary
Mr. Amos “Buck” Taylor, Jr., 90, of Orange City, FL, passed away peacefully with his family at his side, on Wednesday, August 24, 2011. He was born on September 28, 1920 in Philadelphia, PA to Amos Johnson and Florence (Mills) Taylor, Sr. Mr. Taylor attended Roxborough High School in Philadelphia, PA and graduated in 1939. Buck was a member of the Boy Scouts where he attained the rank of Eagle Scout. In 1943, Mr. Taylor honorably served his country, during WWII, in the United States Army. He was a Sergeant, Third Platoon, E Company 506 PIR 101st Airborne Division and was recognized for his service in the book and the mini-series “Band of Brothers”. During his tour he was awarded 3 Bronze Stars and 3 Purple Hearts. Buck was later recognized in 2008 for his heroism and was awarded the French Medal of Honor. Mr. Taylor married the love of his life Elaine (Greenwood) Taylor in 1945. He was later employed by the Veterans Administration from 1946 to 1950. In 1950 he began his career with the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA), in Covert Intelligence Operations, until his retirement in 1973. The job assigned him to the live in the Far East such as Formosa, Saipan, Burma, Okinawa, Japan and New Zealand. Buck moved to Stuart, FL in 1979 where he and his wife resided at Sewalls Point until 2010. He was a loyal and faithful member of the First United Methodist Church of Stuart. Mr. Taylor was also very involved in the community. He was a member of the Nature Conservatory and the Native Plant Society. He is preceded in death by both of his parents; his loving wife of 66 years; brother, Willard Taylor and sister, Doris Leib. Buck is survived by his children, Joan Neal of Jensen Beach, FL, Richard Taylor of Palm Coast, FL, Deborah Price of Boyds, MD and Robert Taylor of Chicago, IL and six grandchildren. A memorial service will be held in his and his wife’s honor 10:00 am, Saturday, September 17, 2011 at First United Methodist Church of Stuart, 1500 South Kanner Highway, Stuart, FL with Pastor Phillip Short officiating. A funeral service will be held in their honor 3:00 pm, November 7, 2011 at Arlington National Cemetery, Post Chapel 400 McNair Drive, Fort Meyers, VA with Dr. Robert Chance officiating . Military honors will be rendered at the cemetery with internment to follow. A reception will be held at the Officers Club.
