William Charles Kernstock's Obituary
William (Bill) Charles Kernstock, born September 11, 1925, Mount Vernon, NY passed away on September 3, 2025 at the age of 99. William served his country in the U.S. Navy in WWII as an Aviation Machinist Mate 3rd Class and was a Plank Owner of the USS Franklin D. Roosevelt CV 42. He retired from Local 584 Teamsters after 25 years, ending his career as a Manager at Hertz-Penske Truck Division, retiring in 1985 to Deltona, FL with his wife, Virginia, where they shared their love for the Miami Dolphins.
In 2002, he became the 13th homeowner in Victoria Gardens, Deland, FL. Through his efforts and contribution, Bill had a flagpole installed outside the clubhouse and was later known as the “flag man,” installing 33 flags on residents’ homes. Bill was a proud member of Landmark Lodge 383, Deltona Eastern Star Chapter 326, Lake Helen American Legion Post 127 and five times Commander of the original Deltona Post 255. As a VFW Post 8093 member, he was commissioned a Kentucky Colonel.
William was predeceased by his wife of 58 years, Virginia, in 2006. He leaves behind his three children: James Kernstock of Orlando, FL; Kathy Earl (Ron-deceased) of Deland, FL; and Debra Ford (David) of Floral Park, NY. Bill was a proud grandfather of Keri McArdle, Christopher Kernstock (Patty), David Ford (Jeremy Smith) and Kevin Ford (Siobhan) and great-grandfather to Grace and Gavin McArdle and Kai and Koko Kernstock.
William was beloved by the many neighbors and good friends in Victoria Gardens who visited him in the nursing home, who his children will forever be grateful. He was a member of the First Methodist Church of Deland. In lieu of flowers, Bill requested Memorial donations may be made to the Shriners Hospital for Children, 2900 Rocky Point Drive, Tampa, FL 33607 (www.lovetotherescue.org).
