William Dale Johnston's Obituary
William D. Johnston of Orange City died on Saturday, July 21, 2012. Born on December 24, 1923 in Hooker, PA, Bill was the eighth of nine children of Ada (Sloane) and William Plummer Johnston. He served in the United States Marine Corp during World War II in the Pacific theater. After returning from war, he met and soon married Alice M. Shoemaker. They settled in Butler, PA and raised four children; Donna(Bruce) Birney, Brenda, Douglass and Dirk (Sharon). Upon retirement, the move was made to Orange City in 1986. He was a resident of DeBary Manor in recent years. Bill will be missed by his children and five grandchildren: Kira and Kate Birney; Alison, Grant and Davis Johnston; Janus and Stephanus Johnston and many nieces and nephews. Bill was a husband, a father, a provider, working as an electric motor repairman for Dumbaugh Electric for most of his career, an active member of the DeBary Presbyterian Church and a friend and supporter of others. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, July 28 at 11:00 AM at the DeBary Presbyterian Church, 267 East Highbanks Road, DeBary. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to DeBary Presbyterian Church.
