Sophie Antosik's Obituary
Sophie Antosik, 96, beloved wife, mother, and grandmother, passed away on March 2, 2024, in her home that she loved in DeBary. Sophie was preceded in death by her husband, Heliodor Jan (John) Antosik and her four siblings. Sophie is survived by her son, Henry and daughter-in-law, Paula, son, Peter, grandson, Matthew, and many loving nieces, nephews and cherished friends.
Sophie was born on April 23, 1927, in Munich, Germany as the second youngest of five children. The family moved to Dachau, Germany where Sophie met and worked as a secretary for her future husband, John Antosik. Sophie and John immigrated to Chicago, Illinois, where they married in 1953 and lived until they retired and moved to the Sunshine State and their home in DeBary in 1989. Sophie loved the Florida sunshine, daily swims in her pool and the beauty of Florida’s many natural wonders.
Sophie’s first love was gardening. In Illinois, her home was honored as “best in the neighborhood” for her gorgeous summertime displays of purple, red and white petunias. She continued her talents in Florida with a beautifully landscaped home in DeBary, working daily amongst the flora and fauna to create a beautiful garden. Sophie thoroughly enjoyed a good card game and many fierce battles playing her favorite board game, Mensch argere Dich nicht, a German version of Parcheesi. Sophie was also a talented seamstress and needlepoint craft artisan, creating many beautiful pieces over the years.
Sophie loved and cared for her canine companions, three Chihuahuas (two Foxys and Buddy) as well as her protector, a black lab mix named Lucky.
Henry and Paula would especially like to thank Sophie’s angels, Ruby and Dee Dee, who cared for Sophie as their own, with countless acts of kindness so that she could live her last years in the home she so dearly loved.
In honor of Sophie and the wonderful mother she was, a memorial service will be held in the Chapel of Peace Mausoleum, Deltona Memorial Funeral Home & Gardens, 1295 Saxon Blvd., Orange City, FL 32763 at 11:00 AM on Saturday, May 11, 2024 with interment immediately following.
God’s Garden God looked around his garden and He found an empty place. He then looked down upon this earth and saw your tired face. He put His arms around you and lifted you to rest. God’s garden must be beautiful, He always takes the best. He knew that you would never, get well on earth again. He saw the road was getting rough and the hills are hard to climb. So, He closed your weary eyelids and whispered “Peace be thine”. It broke our hearts to lose you, but you didn’t go alone. For part of us went with you, the day God called you home.
