Richard 'Dick' Stephenson Hazelworth's Obituary
Richard “Dick” Stephenson Hazelworth, 84 passed away at the Hospice Facility in Orange City, Florida on Wednesday May 2nd with his family at his side.
Dick was born in Jackson, Michigan on September 13, 1927 to John and Doris Hazelworth.
As a youth, Dick enjoyed being a Boy Scout and later became an Eagle Scout. Dick graduated from Jackson High School in 1945. Served in the US Navy from 1945 to 1948; Traveling to Hawaii, Guam and Japan. Dick worked primarily in the construction business, and was known as “Mr. Fix It.” He enjoyed swimming every morning at the Brooks Pool in Orange City. He loved watching football and enjoyed Japanese Bunka Embroidery.
He met his loving wife in Jackson Michigan and was married on August 13, 1955. They had 57 years of the most wonderful life together. They became snow birds and traveled back and forth to Florida during the winter months. Finally retired in DeBary, Florida. They traveled for years in a motor home and loved camping and meeting so many dear friends. Dick was a very loving caring devoted husband, father and grandpa to his family.
Dick is survived by his wife Emmy Lou, daughter Heidi Hengesbaugh and son-in-law Randy of Jackson, Michigan, daughter Trudi Peevey of Beaufort, SC, son Wesley Hazelworth and daughter-in-law Tanya of Bristow, VA. Ten grandchildren: Eric Peevey , Kevin and his wife Ruthie, Christina Peevey, Kelsi Hengesbaugh, Kaile Hengesbaugh, Korie Hengesbaugh, Alexander Hazelworth, Matthew Hazelworth, and Bradley Hazelworth. Great grandchildren: Harper Lynn Peevey and Samual Alan Peevey arriving August 2012. His brother George “Ted” Hazelworth and his wife Sarah of California, Brother John Hazelworth of North Carolina, Sister Patricia Wheeler and her husband Darrell of Michigan. Niece Maureen Colwell and family of NC and Niece Lynn Rochelle Hess and husband Kevin of Idaho.
In lieu of flowers the family request donations be made to the Hospice Facility 1625 Veterans Memorial Parkway Orange City Florida 32763. Cremation services took place in DeBary, Florida.
