Richard James Keane's Obituary
It is with deep sorrow and much love that we mourn the passing of Richard James Keane of Deltona, Florida at the age of 67. Richard passed away peacefully at home with his loved ones by his side on February 21, 2023.
Richard was born on December 14, 1955, to Thomas and Dorothy Keane in New Hyde Park, New York. The Keane's moved to Miami, Florida in 1959, where Richard, also known as Richie, spent his childhood with his 2 brothers and sister.
Richard joined the United States Army in 1976 during the Vietnam Era, where he served in the B Company, 1st Battalion 70th Armor as a Tank Crewman Gunner. During his six years in the military, he served a tour overseas at the Wiesbaden Military Community in Germany where he earned his marksman badge, and had the privilege of being part of the security force for President Jimmy Carter.
In 1980, Richard met the love of his life, Karen Thompson, in Miami, Florida. They married on July 9, 1982, and laid their roots in Deltona, Florida where they raised their three children, Thomas, Jennifer, and Jessica.
Richard retired from the United States Postal Service after 32 years of service in 2016. Richard was a self-taught musician who enjoyed playing any instrument he could find from guitars to piano to drums and harmonicas. He was an avid gardener and was quite the handy man and mechanic. Also, Richard's six grandchildren kept him busy with their sports, school, and frequent sleepovers, but he loved every minute of it.
Richard was preceded in death by his mother and father, Thomas and Dorothy Keane, as well as his brother, Dennis Keane.
He will be sorely missed and survived by his wife, Karen (Thompson) Keane; his brother and wife, Kenneth and Colleen Keane; his sister, Susan Keane. As well as his children: Thomas and Sarah Keane, Jennifer Keane, Jessica (Keane) and Nicholas Ottaviano. Grandchildren: Karli Keane, Mason Ottaviano, Kylee Keane, Chase Keane, Wesley Ottaviano, Charlotte Keane.
A Celebration of Life will be held at the Baldauff Family Funeral Home in Orange City, Florida on Saturday, March 4 at 11a.m.
Richard will be laid to rest at the Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell, Fl on Monday, March 6 at 11 a.m.
