Olive Adina King's Obituary
Life Legacy
An extraordinary life was lived by Olive Adina King (Meatley). Born in Annotta Bay, Jamaica, Olive set out to defy insurmountable odds while being a devoted daughter, wife, mother, friend, nurse, and most importantly, child of God. Momma King (as she was lovingly regarded) began her life’s journey in the most unthinkable of places in Cuba at the age of 16. Present during the Cuban revolution, she returned to Jamaica determined to have a career in the medical field. She migrated to England and began her understudies as a nursing student. While still a student, she met the love of her life in Emanuel King. Olive and Emanuel migrated to America in the early 70’s. Starting over had it’s challenges, but determined to break the chains of bondage, Olive’s commitment to her family was tested through many trials and tribulations. Through it all, her infectious laugh and imperturbable Faith in God saw her through life’s darkest nights. Moving to Deltona in 1981, you could find Olive and her family on the 4 th row of Faith Baptist church every Sunday. Her deep alto voice anchored the choir as her piercing eyes resolved any behavioral problems before they started. Olive often mentored young nurses, wives, and all persons who could use wisdom from her 79 years of life. Her 52 years of nursing service was proof of her spiritual gift of healing. She would first seek the spiritual well being of her patients while also tending to their bodies. Her final retirement at the age of 77 was only due to her desire to spend more time with her family. Olive has been reunited in death by her one true love in Emanuel King, who preceded her home going in 2000. Olive’s greatest passion are in her 5 children and she marked her highest achievement by all five having a personal relationship with the Lord. Her passion was renewed in the arrival of each one of her 18 grandchildren, many of which she was present for the birth, and a host of adopted daughters, sons, and grandchildren. “ 25 Strength and honor are her clothing; She shall rejoice in time to come. 26 She opens her mouth with wisdom, And on her tongue is the law of kindness. 27 She watches over the ways of her household, And does not eat the bread of idleness. 28 Her children rise up and call her blessed; Her husband also, and he praises her: 29 “Many daughters have done well, But you excel them all.” 30 Charm is deceitful and beauty is passing, But a woman who fears the L ORD , she shall be praised. 31 Give her of the fruit of her hands, And let her own works praise her in the gates. Psalms 31: 25-31 NKJV
