Marion M. White's Obituary
Marion Milligan White died on Monday, January 7, 2013, 20 days short of her 99th birthday. She was 98. She was born January 27, 1914 in Chicago, IL to William and Mabel (Easton) Milligan, and spent her formative years in Berwyn, IL. Marion met her future husband, William (Bill) White, when she was 14 at the family's cottage in Michigan. She attended the University of Wisconsin where she was a member of Alpha Chi Omega Sorority. After they were married in 1936, Marion and Bill moved to Cadillac, MI and opened a hardware store.
Prior to her years as a homemaker, Marion helped her husband in their store and became a private pilot. Marion was a member of the First Congregational Church in Cadillac. She also volunteered to teach adults to read. Her interest in genealogy resulted in her becoming a charter member of Daughters of the American Revolution. She was an avid golfer and a ski instructor. Marion skied in Quebec, Switzerland, Austria, Aspen, and she especially loved Caberfae Ski Area in Cadillac. She and her husband, Bill, moved to Florida in 1984 and divided their time between Florida and Michigan.
In Titusville Marion was an active member of St. Luke's Presbyterian Church, and enjoyed playing bridge and tap dancing at the Senior Center. She had a wide circle of wonderful friends both in Michigan and Florida. In 2003 Marion moved into assisted living in DeBary, FL to be closer to her children. In 2007 she moved into DeBary Manor Nursing Home where she enjoyed social activities until the time of her death. Marion was preceded in death by her husband William. H. White, her brother, William Milligan and her sister, Abigail Milligan Radke.
Marion is survived by her children: Bill White (Teri) of DeBary, Nan Cogle (Ed) of DeBary and Barb Shanldand (George) of Cadillac, MI as well as grandchildren: Ben Peacock of Haleiwa HI, Jason Peacock of Kennebunk, ME, Dr. Emily White of Carrboro, NC, and Pam Daghlian of San Francisco, CA. Step grand children include: Dave, Ed, Bob, Chris, Shankland of Cadillac, MI, Dan Shankland of Redlands, CA, Dr. Chris Cogle, of Gainesville, FL, and Jennifer Cogle Cunningham of Orlando, FL. She is also survived by her sister, Charity Schulman of Phoenix, AZ, and numerous great grand children.
