Marie A. Konkal's Obituary
Marie A. Konkal, 95, completed her life’s journey on Sunday, March 6, 2016 at Atria Park at Lake Forest in Sanford, Florida.
Marie was born on February 19, 1921 in Detroit, Michigan to John F. and Frances M. DeYonker (nee Dierickx), the 5th of 11 children. She met her late husband on a blind date and they were married on May 20, 1944.
She was a loving and caring wife and mother to their 4 children. The house was always a kids hangout and she never minded a house full; always having an ear to listen to a kid’s problems, her own kids or their friends. She was Den Mother for her son’s Cub Scout troops and was active with her daughter’s Campfire Girls and Girls Scout’s groups, as well volunteering for many activities at her children’s schools.
Marie was a devout Catholic, and a member of the Marionettes, the Women’s Auxiliary of the Knights of Columbus. She also believed in giving to her community and was a Red Cross Volunteer for many years, including teaching kids swimming classes, which she really enjoyed, and serving in Red Cross emergency shelters .
She is preceded in death by her husband of 67 years, Bernard (Barney) Konkal, Her son-in- law, M. Lee Gay, Jr., and her granddaughter, Jessica Gay.
She is survived by her children Cassandra Brumley (Jeffrey), Janice Gay, Alan Konkal (Kim) and Donald Konkal (Donna); 8 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren and 2 great great-grandchildren, as well as many many nieces and nephews.
Services will be Thursday, March 10, 2016 at 10:00 a.m. at Our Lady of the Lakes Catholic Church, 1310 Maximillian St, Deltona FL 32725. Arrangements by Baldauff Funeral Home, Orange City, FL 386-775-2101.
