Larry E. Hicks Sr.'s Obituary
Mr. Larry Eugene Hicks, Sr., age 71, passed away on December 25, 2025, in Deltona, Florida. Born on December 4, 1954 in Darlington, SC. Larry brought joy and music into the lives of countless people throughout his life.
Larry's journey through life was marked by a deep love for music and an unwavering commitment to spreading happiness. Entertaining was not just a hobby-it was his calling. He began his musical career as a member of the Motor City Band in Connecticut, where he captivated audiences with his talent and charisma. In 1987, he relocated to Florida and continued to share his passion by founding the band Then2Now. Through this group, Larry became a beloved figure in the local music scene, known for bringing people together through song and celebration.
To know Larry was to be embraced by warmth and kindness. He had a big heart and a generous spirit that touched everyone he met. Whether performing on stage or simply spending time with those around him, Larry made it his mission to ensure that everyone felt loved and valued. His presence lit up every room, and his laughter was as memorable as his melodies.
Larry leaves behind a legacy of love and music that will continue to resonate through the lives of those that knew him. He is survived by his devoted wife of 58 years, Nixa Hicks; his son, Larry Hicks Jr.; his daughter Tanya Hicks; his sisters Juliette Hicks and Deborah Washington; and his brother Brent Washington. He also leaves behind his cherished mother-in-law Avelina Melecio.
Larry's family tree continues through generations: seven grandsons, six granddaughters, three great-grandsons, six great-granddaughters -and a host of nephews and nieces who will carry forward the joy he so freely gave.
A man who never met a stranger, Larry was more than an entertainer-he was a hero, best friend, and super star to many. His legacy will live on not only in music he created but also in the hearts of all who were fortunate enough to know him.
May his memory bring comfort to those who knew him and may the music he shared continue to inspire joy for years to come. A Memorial Gathering will be held on January 15, 2026, at 11:00am at Seventh Day Adventist church 1717 Catalina Blvd. Once the service is over, we will go to the church hall for a gathering.
