Joanne L Braheny's Obituary
Joanne L.Birch Braheny was called to be with the Lord on June 13, 2017 at the age of 72. Joanne was born at home in East Palestine, Ohio. She was preceded in death by her Mother Oral Cook and her Step Farther John Cook. She is survived by her Husband of 50 years Robert and her daughter Tara Petersen, and grandchildren Esa and William, her son in law Eric Petersen and Sister in laws Linda Braheny all of Orlando Fl. , Sister in law Doretta Ellery and Brother in Law W. Jeff Ellery of Meritta, GA.and nephew Todd Marr of Meritta, GA. Joanne had battled back from Cancer twice and was in remission when a virulent form of Pneumonia struck. Joanne graduated from East Palestine High School and went on to Hannah E. Mullins School of Practical Nursing at Salem City Hospital where after graduation she helped start the first Pediatric floor at the Hospital. She married her husband Robert in 1966 and they moved to Orlando, FL. Joanne worked in Doctors offices then became a stay at home Mom. She started and managed several small businesses in the Orlando area. Joanne got involved as a volunteer with the Florida Association for Adults and Children with Learning Disabilities and eventually became the State Vice President and traveled the state giving lectures on how to help L.D. students in the school system. This led to her to run for the County School Board. Joanne was a devoted wife and mother and grandmother who was passionate about her family. She loved to travel and seeing new places, hiking the national parks ( 98 of them ) she had traveled to all 50 states and 20 Foreign Countries. For the last 16 years she spent half her time in DeBary, Fl and the other half in the beautiful mountains of western North Carolina.
