Life Legacy
Jerome “Jerry” W. Ott, 92, formerly of Erie, PA and a resident of Florida passed away peacefully on August 3, 2016. Born March 22, 1924 to the late John and Mary (Rosenstiel) Ott, Jerry made his home in Summit Township with his late wife Rose Marie (Szymczak) Ott just up the road from the family farm in Dunn Valley, McKean, PA. Besides his parents and wife, Jerome was predeceased by siblings Ann, John, Carl, Robert, Ralph, Adelaide, Joseph, William, Edwin, Delores (Havern), and Mary Elizabeth (Smith). Jerry was a U.S. Army veteran and retired after 40+ years at International Paper’s Hammermill plant. He was hard working and respected by those that knew him. Jerry is survived by his children: David Ott , wife Sharon; Christine Engell, husband Scott; Mark Ott; Mary Bathurst, husband Alan; Matthew Ott, wife Melissa; Michelle Belczyk, husband Timothy; nine grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; brother John Ott, wife Dorothy; and many nieces and nephews. Jerry hunted and fished in his younger years and bowled in leagues over the years. He threw a good game of horseshoes, was hard to beat at checkers and always had a garden. His garden surplus was usually delivered barefoot to the surrounding neighbors. He liked meat, potatoes, and green beans and homemade berry pies. Upon retiring, he spent time walking the beach in St. Augustine, FL and playing bingo with his friends in Brooksville, FL. Family card games won’t be the same without him. Friends and family are invited to celebrate his life on August 21, 2016 from 2-5pm at the house he built at 8570 Oliver Rd, Erie, PA. Burial will be private at Valley Cemetery in Dunn Valley bringing his earthly journey to an end where it started. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the charity of your choice in Jerry's honor.
