James F Brussow's Obituary
Sergeant James "Jim" Brussow 92, died peacefully at AdventHealth Fish Memorial DeBary, February 6th 2020. A veteran of World War II and Korea, he served in the Marine Corps and was twice awarded the Purple Heart.
Sergeant Brussow was born on July 16th 1927 in Madison, Wisconsin to Fred and Vera Brussow. In 1944 he joined the armed forces and was assigned to the Marine Corps base camp in Lejeune, NC. After graduating from training, he was assigned to the 12th Marines and deployed to Korea and China. He was wounded in 1946 and 1949 receiving the Purple Heart.
In 1953 Sargent James was discharged with full honors and proceeded to work in the Civil service for the Navy in Key West as an electrician until his full retirement. Widowed in 2012, he spent his remaining time as a volunteer with the Highway Patrol, Fire department and the VFW. He was also an active member of his church.
Jim was a brave and loyal soldier, as well as a patient and loving father. He married Cleo Kemp in Key West, Florida in 1952, moving to DeBary in 1982. With his natural outgoing personality, he often served as a first aid trainer and Chaplin at Fish Memorial hospital.
He is survived by his his son Kim, his four grandchildren, Victor, Andrea, Eric and John, and his four great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his wife, Cleo and daughter, Bonnie .
A memorial service will take place at Deltona Alliance Church on February 16th at 5pm. The service will be officiated by Pastor Brad. Funeral arrangements are provided by Baldauff Family Funeral Home. Flowers and donations may be sent to Deltona Alliance Church.
