Howard Edward Koons' Obituary
Howard Edward Koons, 88, of Apopka, FL, died June 21, 2015, at the Quality of Health Care Hospice Center in Winter Garden, FL. Mr. Koons was born October 5, 1926 in Pottsville, PA to Adolph and Bertha Koons
He attended Pottsville High School, and graduated in 1944, where he lettered in Volleyball and Baseball. He then enlisted into the US Navy in that year, and was assigned to Ft. Lauderdale Naval Air Station; where he served as a Radar Specialist through 1946. After his military service; he continued his education at Penn State University, as a member of the University Gymnastics Team and Sigma Phi Sigma fraternity. He graduated in 1950 with a B.A. in Physical Education.
In his career; Mr. Koons had been employed in the Consumer Finance Industry in Management with Girard Investment Company in Shamokin, Lebanon and Philadelphia, PA, Home Credit and Barclays- American in Lancaster, SC and retired from Invacare of Sanford, FL.
He was active in the Kiwanis Club while residing in Lebanon, PA, and with the Lions Club in Lancaster, SC. He played organized softball and baseball in Church Leagues and Community organizations and was a member of Reformation Lutheran in Lancaster, SC.
He enjoyed watching and participating in sports. Especially football; as an avid Penn State fan. He had a gift for one line jokes, drawing and sang as a tenor to favorites by The Everly Brothers and The Platters.
He is survived by his wife, Agnes Daniels Koons of Apopka, FL; sister, Ella of Pottsville, Pa, a son, Michael Koons of Shamokin, PA, Step Son David Koons of Fort Mill, SC, Step Daughters Kay Tobias of Orange City, FL and Constance Krall of Indian Harbour Beach, FL, Seven Grandchildren and four Great grandchildren.
A Graveside service is scheduled for 11:30 AM on Friday, June 26; at Florida National Cemetery, Bushnell FL. Arrangements are being handled by Baldauff Family Funeral Home, and are accepting flowers and condolences at their address; 1233 Saxon Blvd, Orange City, Fl 32763.
