Gladstone Barrington's Obituary
Gladstone Reginald Barrington was born on December 21, 1928, in Spikeland, Demerara River, Guyana to his proud mom Anita Barrington. He was formally educated in Georgetown, Guyana. He gained employment in the Essequibo River area driving heavy equipment transporting raw lumber between Mazaruni and Bartica for shipment downriver. Gladstone leveraged his heavy machinery expertise into a position with Demerara Bauxite Company (DemBa) where he was employed for over 23 years. It was during this time that he became a formative character in our lives. He was an active member of, and held a third knight degree in, the Independent Order of the United Mechanics. Gladstone emigrated to the United States in 1970 and took up residence in New York City. He was employed at Eagle Electric in Queens for 20 years. He retired in 1990, and moved to Deltona, Florida and resided there until his passing. Mr. Barrington was a member of the Church of the Children of Zion. Growing up, he was an avid soccer player and fan and always enjoyed spending time with his family.
He left behind to cherish his memory his beloved wife and best friend of 53 years, Cynthia Barrington. His legacy of love also includes, his children Keith (Parlo), Tyrone (Excellencia), Brian (Barbara), Hazel (Pat), Wesley (preceded him in death), Donna (Benny), Celeste (John), Matthew (Vashon), and Sam (Gwenetta). He will also be greatly missed by his grandchildren Alwyn, Shawn, Sherwyn, Sheldon, Deonne, Chevron, Andrew, Christopher, Adrian, Camile, Crystal, Briana, Xiomara, Tanit, Devawn, Darshawn, Kimberly, Denise, Melissa and 22 great-grandchildren. His loss is also greatly felt by his brothers Patrick, John, Charlie, Michael, Francis, and sisters Cleo, Doreen, Olga, and Evelyn along with countless nieces, nephews and friends.
Gladstone, also known as “Uncle Buddy” was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, uncle, and friend. He will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him. May his soul forever rest in peace.
The family wishes to extend our deepest appreciation for all of the concern and support given to us during our time of bereavement. May the Lord continue to bless you all.
