I have fond memories of this highly respected navigator and fisherman. George's influence included a fishing trip to the Western side of the peninsula known as Florida where he introduced the crew to his buddy FF. It seems the nickname was the result of a bet. The gentleman waged on his ability to loose weight so that he could be allowed to resume his flying career at Delta Airlines as the highest paid pilot with the least landings.
I have many fond memories from my years in the 711th, but serving with George is among the best. When I first became a member of the navigator section, he was one of those very professional, but fun loving guys, who welcomed me. He taught me the ropes, he was a mentor, and inspired me to be the best Gunship navigator I could be. We’ve lost a good man, and friend. God's speed George!
