Eugene J. Laube's Obituary
Eugene Laube
Born April 28, 1925 in Flushing, NY.
Served honorably in WWII in Supreme Headquarters under General Eisenhower - Staff Sergeant - in European Theatre - England and France
After returning home, he met Clare Henshaw while adjusting machines at Lily Tulip in 1952. He adjusted her machine so well, she married him in 1953.
In 1957 they added a small addition - Lance (who has grown considerably since then).
In 1971 Gene and Clare sold the property on Long Island, and moved to the rural paradise of Towanda, Pennsylvania. They were subsequently flooded out by Hurricane Agnes in 1972, but mopped up and persevered.
Gene and Clare raised and raced horses in Pennsylvania and New York until 1977 (after the blizzard of ‘76), when they migrated to Deleon Springs, Florida, to train horses at Spring Garden Ranch. Gene was the starting judge at many of the harness races at Spring Garden Ranch. Clare (Crash&Burn) was the driver for the starting gate during that time.
In 2002, while browsing through Goodwill, a beat-up guitar case caught Gene’s eye. A beautiful guitar resided inside that case, and he bought it to present it to his beautiful wife. She promptly took lessons, which launched a career in show biz, which resulted in her becoming Da Boss Lady in the Hilltop Ramblers.
Gene loved the camaraderie and the bluegrass/gospel/country music of her sessions, and this gave him a whole new circle of wonderful friends. He was always up front, cheering Clare on - a happier soul we’ve never seen.
He was an incredible father, and a wonderful husband, a strong silent rock who had more warmth and kindness than any ten men. He will be sorely missed by his wife Clare, son Lance, daughter-in law MaryAnn, and grandson Zechary. They are all proud to be Laube’s because of Gene.
