Doug William Little's Obituary
Doug was an entrepreneur in many endeavors. He was the Chairperson of The West
Volusia Tourism Bureau, CEO of the St. John’s River Eco Tours, Sr Vice President of
Commercial Lending at the New World Bank International. His past endeavors followed
in Banking, Mortgage, Title, and Lending institutions. Doug owned a seat on the Chicago
Board of Trade, COF of WMFP-TV in Lawrence, MA, Director of Daytime Sales with ABC
Network, and was an instructor at Columbia College in Chicago and Stetson University in
DeLand. Doug also sat on several boards both in Chicago and in the Volusia County area.
Doug was a known photographer of nature and his photographs have been in several
shows around the area.
As a child in the late forties and early fifties, he was constantly on the go. Our father
was the VP of Production of Vincent Kling Studio’s in Chicago. There would be times my
father took Doug to work with him. The studio was across the street of CBS studios in
Chicago. In those days commercials were live. When they needed a child, Doug was
asked to be in the commercials. That is where his love of cameras, performance was
seeded and had time to grow.
During Doug’s teen years, he was involved in Bicycle and Speed Skating in Northbrook,
IL. He ranked high in both sports and a custom bike was designed and presented to him
by the Schwinn Corporation.
In his later teens and twenties, Doug was an artist in several mediums, including the
performing arts. He was in several stage productions in High School, and “Off Second-
City” in Chicago. One of the plays was the original script of Grease. It was purchased by
Hollywood and some rewrites produced the movie we watch today, with John Travolta
and the late Olivia Newton-John.
Doug had a full and rich life surrounded by loving family and friends. Doug’s presences
will be missed by many people including his caring doctors, therapists, and nurses. If
you knew Doug, you know how he would engage anyone. Give him a stage, microphone
and Doug was in his element. Those who took a tour on the Naiad, when Jeanne was
Captain and Doug was Deck hand know how wonderful the tour was. After Jeanne’s
death, Doug took over narrating the tour. Visitors were enchanted as Doug would tell
the history of the life on the St John’s River. The legacy that Doug left was immense.
Doug, we only say good-bye for a little while; until we join you in heaven. So Long,
Farewell, Adieu, Au Revoir, Arrivederci, Adieus, Auf Wiedersehen, Sayonara, Do
svidaniya, Annyeong, Slan, and Tot ziens. We will see you again.
The Spreading of Ashes and Celebration of Life is by invitation only.
