David B. McKelvy's Obituary
David Byers McKelvy, 69, of Deltona, FL passed away peacefully in his home due to preexisting medical conditions on Dec 1,2024. He was born on April 14, 1955 in Orlando, Florida. He was the son of William and Betty Mckelvy, and brother of Doug and Lisa Mckelvy.
David spent his childhood in Orlando, Ocala, and Deland, Florida. David married the Love of his life, Lois Mckelvy on April 21st 1979. Shortly after marriage, David moved with his wife to Angelton, Texas to begin his career and to start a family. Three years later they became two loving and devoted parents raising two children, Bryan (42), and Brittany (39). In 1989.
David moved his family to Deltona, FL to be closer to home. Shortly after, David began his career working for Universal Studios in Orlando and worked his way up from a Plumber to Utilities Manager. Through his dedication at Universal, he was able to directly impact the growth of multiple theme parks and most importantly the lives of others he worked with and around, often known by the nickname “Cheese”. He took great pride in impacting others around him, and was regular nominated for his relationships he built around him as a leader. In December of 2022.
David retired leaving his legacy for others to follow behind. David enjoyed golfing, watching football, cheering on the Tampa Bay Lightning, and most importantly spending time with his family. He often donated his time helping others in need, and enjoyed mentoring others in his life. He was remembered as one of the greatest football coaches and leaders for many in the Volusia County community. David was someone that others trusted in to help them through various obstacles in their lives. He found healing in humor and always pushed others to be their very best.
Surviving, is his loving wife Lois McKelvy, Kids Bryan Mckelvy, Brittany Mckelvy Thompson, sister Lisa Mckelvy, Granddaughters Breanna, Braylee, Mia and Kiana, loving Son in law Brian Thompson and Daughter in law Juliana Mckelvy.
David’s Cremation was at Baldauff Funeral Home in Orange City, Florida. At his request, there will be no calling hours or funeral. There will be a celebration of life for immediate family and close friends.
David will be sadly missed by so many people that has been part of his life, but he would love everyone to move forward and enjoy life to the fullest embracing the loved ones around you. ❤️
