Barbara L. Cleveland's Obituary
Barbara (Parr) Cleveland, 91, formerly of Bethel, Connecticut and Deland, Florida died October 6, 2012, in Venice, FL. Born in Danbury, Connecticut, April 6, 1921, she was the daughter of the late Albert and Louise Harkness. Mrs. Cleveland graduated from the Danbury State Teacher’s College in Danbury, CT in 1942. She said that her favorite memory of college was practice teaching. Barbara began her teaching career in Bantam, CT and relocated to Newtown, CT where she remained a devoted elementary school teacher for 32 years. She and her husband, Frederick Parr, were actively involved in Newtown life, especially with the Lion's Club. They travelled extensively and then retired to Florida in 1978. Barbara became an avid golfer .
Barbara leaves her nieces Beth DeBruin of MA and Karen Mann of FL, and nephew Brian Mullaney of PA; her cousins Mr. Robert Robinson of CT and Mr. David Harkness of VA. Also, there are several nieces and nephews related to Frederick Parr. Mrs. Cleveland is predeceased by Ethel Mullaney, her sister, and husbands Frederick Parr and Robert Cleveland.
Burial services are private at the convenience of the family. Memorial contributions may be sent to Tidewell Hospice 220 Wexford Blvd. Venice, Fl 34293.
