Andrew J. Viola's Obituary
Andrew J. Viola, 95, of Deltona, Florida, passed away on April 1, 2017. He was born on January 17, 1922 in Brooklyn, New York to parents Joseph and Donata (Vassalla) Viola. Andy is survived by his wife of nearly 70 years, Mary P. Viola (Pagnotta); daughter Andrea Roth, son-in-law Charles Roth; grandchildren Jade Roth and Devin Roth, of Madison, Wisconsin. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Dominick Viola, sisters Marie Gassman, Gertrude Lizzi, and Anna VIola. Andy served in the United States Army Air Forces during World War II in the Pacific theater. He kept the difficult experiences to himself and shared just a few with his family in his later years. He came back from the war and attended Pace University in New York City where he graduated with an accounting degree. He worked in the New York financial district for about 20 years before moving his family to Miami, Florida when he accepted a transfer. In his younger years he was an excellent athlete and played baseball. He also loved to bowl and golf. He always enjoyed working in his garden and hanging out with the family cat, Tuffy. Andy was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, brother-in-law, and friend. He was a wonderful warm person and loved his family very much. He was as close to the Pagnottas as he was to the Violas. He was especially close with his church family from Saint Claire's Catholic Church where he was a parishioner for over 20 years. He served as the leader of their Monday night prayer group and enjoyed that role very much . To know Andy was to love him. He touched all that knew him with his warmth and charm, especially the nurses at Florida Fish Memorial Hospital who all adored him. We wish to thank the amazing people at Vitas hospice as well for the wonderful care they provided in the last days of his life. They held his hand as well as ours. We will never forget their kindness and compassion. Funeral Services will be held Friday, April 7, 2017 11am at St. Clare Catholic Church.
