Earlene Gail (King) Demar, 77, died October 16, 2021, at her home in Debary, FL, with her loving daughters at her side. Earlene was born in St. Albans, VT on March 8, 1944, daughter of the late Morton and Alydia (Sartwell) King. Earlene grew up in St. Albans, VT and was a 1962 graduate of BFA St. Albans High School. She received a B.A. in education from Johnson State College and later a Masters of Curriculum and Education from the University of Vermont. Earlene was a dedicated educator at the St Albans City Elementary School her entire career and retired in 2006. Earlene was an avid sewer, making cherished patchwork quilts for her immediate family members. She also made many beautiful cross stitch gifts. Earlene enjoyed yard work, gardening and taking care of her home. After her retirement, Earlene’s love for teaching continued and drew her to become a highly respected and valued volunteer at the Debary Elementary School. Prior to her illness, Earlene was presented with the Senior Volunteer of the Year Award for her dedication and great work with the young students. On May 29, 1964, she married Frederick (Fred) Demar and they enjoyed 49 years together until his death in 2013. Together they shared three daughters, Alydia Lazzaro (Lawrence), of Milton, VT, Janet Clark (Paul Helms), of Saranac, NY and Stephanie Demar-Gavora of Debary, FL. She also leaves six grandchildren, Brian Clark (Mindy) of S. Burlington, VT, Benjamin Clark of St. Albans, VT, Courtney Soto (Javier) of Deltona, FL, Angela Lazzaro and Laura Lazzaro of Milton, VT, and Jacob Gavora of Debary, FL, four great-grandsons, Bradley and Brody Clark of S. Burlington, and Javier II and Nicolas Soto of Deltona, Fl. Earlene is also survived by her loving sister, Joyce Giroux, honorary sister, Jeanne King, two brother in-laws, Roland Oliver and Francis Walker, sister in-laws; Olive Sloan, Holly King, and Cheryl King, lifelong friend/walking partner Diana Patenaude, friend Gail Lashua, and over sixty nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and her husband, she was also predeceased by her brothers and sisters and their spouses; James Longley (Margaret), Morton King Jr., Wendell King, and Michael King, Betty Potvin (Charles Sr), Barbara Carpentier (Thomas), Sally Walker, and Norma Oliver, in-laws; William (Arietta) Demar, Frank (Mary) Demar, Maggie (Kenneth) Gabaree, Alice (Leonard) Commo, and Lawrence Sloan. Per Earlene’s request, in lieu of flowers, donations in her memory can be made to children’s cancer research via the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
